If you look closely, you can see a young man dressed in a Prep-School uniform practicing his lines on the steps of the trailor. After I walked by when I was coming out of the train and still couldn't figure out what they were filming, I finally asked him.
Me: "What are you filming?"
Him: "law and order"
Me: "oh"
Cool right? Then I saw the sign from Mayor Bloomberg saying they have permission to park there for the show. It's pretty official, it says the names of each character on the different doors and everything.
I guess it's not THAT cool. Especially because I don't even watch the show. But I think I made that kid feel cool by asking him about it. Anyway, bye.
I took this picture from inside my salon, because I didn't want to look suspicious. I wish it would have been someone like Angelina Jolie so I could sell the picture to all the tabloids for thousands.

I hate you

Dear Lucille Roberts,
Thanks for lying to me about when you open and close and leading me to believe that you are open normal gym hours. I'm sure when I said to the sales rep that I like to work out early before work, you thought I meant at other gyms. Since I quickly found out you guys really open at 8 am, when I should be finishing my work out, and close when I am getting home from work, I get to pay for something I don't use! So fun!!! And so practical!
Also, thanks for making it almost impossible to cancel my useless membership, even though I signed up for a no-commitment/month to month plan. It has been great calling a busy line over 100 times since you guys don't cancel memberships at your locations. You probably save thousands by only having one customer service rep answer all those calls! So, it looks like we'll be working together for a very long time. I can't wait to waste more minutes and money.
Keep it up guys, you are running a very well managed and customer friendly business!
Love,
Reagan Gail Breinholt
customer for 3 weeks
P.s. If you guys wouldn't mind turning up the raggaeton music a little louder that would be great. I can still hear just a little bit of my own music when my iPod is on full blast. They're so fun though. And the salon is slow today. Plus Reagan tagged me and I could never let her down.
The rules:
1. Link the Person who Tagged you
2. Mention rules on your blog
3. Tell about 6 quirks of yours
4. Tag 6 fellow bloggers to do the same
5. Leave a comment to let them know
6 quirks about me.
I'm doing this from my blackberry, so if I remember, I'll link to Reagan later. And Reagan, unlike you, I have many, many, many quirks.
1. Lifetime. I love lifetime movies. I love them. I have been known to watch them all day and forget about laundry, cleaning and eating. Did you know most of them are based on true stories? So interesting. However, I draw the line when Heather Graham finds out she's pregnant with satan's child.
2. Huge hands. When I moved to Utah at the age of 14, I quickly learned that girls TEAR you apart there. One girl pointed out how huge my hands are and I had never even noticed. She was right though! They ARE huge! They were as big as or bigger than all of the boys'. I owe it to my long fingers. Thanks to them, my hands are as big as Jake's, and he is 6'4"!!! Is that a quirk or a disfigurement?
3. My life is a musical. I make up several songs every day to narrate whatever it is I'm doing. One time I was laying in bed singing about how thirsty I was. Jake joined in singing about how I should get some drinks for us. We decided that whoever made up the best song to go with the drink situation could stay in bed and the loser would have to get the drinks. Well, we stayed awake for 2 more hours laughing and singing ridiculous songs and we never got drinks.
4. Same as 3, but with dancing. All I'm going to say is loose arm wiggle dance. A beautiful dance I made up to the tune of White Stripe's "little ghost". Which by the way I have had stuck in my head for 3 years....HI dad!
5. I'm obsessed with mermaids. I desperately wanted to grow up to be a mermaid. I changed my name to Ariel when I was 5 and was banned from taking unsupervised baths because I would tie my feet together into a fin singing and splashing around for hours. I caused permanent damage to the bathroom floor/ceiling in the room below from excessive splashing. I still can't believe I'm not a mermaid.
6. I say what I'm thinking without thinking. I know about 20 people who are nodding as they read that one. if I notice/think of something amusing/funny I will share it with the class no matter how offensive or inapropriate the setting/situation is. I have had to just accept myself the way I am because I've tried to change, but can't. Seriously. I have said some things in the middle of church that would make your mother cry and a fraternity boy blush. And, no. I'm not giving any examples.
I blame my vast number of quirks on being homeschooled until I was 14. I missed out on some crucial years of socializing skills and developed a freakish imagination.
You know what, I'm going to do Jake's for him because I know he is way to "cool and artsy" for a tag. BTW, there was really no reason for the quotations around cool and artsy.
1. He married me. What a freak, right?
2. computer nerd alert! If I would let him, he'd stay in a dark/damp dungeon of computers all day and night doing nerd stuff on them. you're welcome Jake for my intervention. You'll thank me when you're older.
3. When he laughs really hard, he sounds like a girl.
4. Jake COULD win Coney Island's hot dog eating contest. And he SHOULD be 300 lbs. He can eat a large pizza by himeself without blinking.
5. He is kind of girly. Jake uses body scrubs, moisterizers, tweezers and many facial products. He smells better than me. Plus he pretty much never farts. Plus he shops at Sephora. But he is also a complete guy, just not when it comes to beauty products.
6. I could only think of 5 because Jake is Mr. Perfect Fancy Pants. And all 5 are pretty weak. Oh well. My next apointment is in 2 1/2 hours so now I have to find something else to occupy my time.
And I know it's lame, but I'm not tagging anyone else. Unless you want to.

New York Marathon Volunteering

This is us at the New York Marathon. We had a great time. 40,000 runners!! Seriously, you could just feel the energy! I was so excited to be a part of such a big event in our city. Since there were so many runners, they had to break everyone up into three groups to get their chips clipped, we were in the 3rd group (farthest away from finish line) and we were the last post. So, we wound up clipping only about 10 chips each and giving about 200 runners directions to everything from "how to get to the east side of the park", to a very important "where is the nearest bar?". We soon realized that our main job would be to cheer for the finishers and tell them how great they did. One guy kissed me!!! Then looked at Jake and apologized. Hahaha

Here we are! Volunteering our socks off! We were there all day and we still went home and watched the WHOLE thing on DVR. I already knew that Paula Radcliffe won, but I had to see if it was as close as last year. She finished 2 minutes faster than the second place runner. That is amazing. She lead the entire race. This woman is incredibly inspiring to me. She works so hard and endures mountains of pain to do what she does. She has run 10 marathons and won 8 of them. She holds 4 of the 5 fastest women's marathon in history. Not to mention many awards and other world records.

After watching the race, I realized that this is my thing. I love running, watching running and talking about it. Even though I do not perform at an elite level like these women, watching them made me want to be awesome. It was such a great experience to be there.

The (corny) end.

More Halloween

We went to a Halloween party on Saturday and guess what we dressed up as......(if you don't get it, that's ok)

An axe body spray commercial!! Because, although I had all the materials three weeks ago, I didn't start making it until last night. I'm also proud because I made the entire thing....spray painting, sewing, head band/dress, gladiator sandals and all. She looks so cute.

I wish I could have gotten better pictures. She LOVED the costume. She loved all the shiny gold and the strings on her sandals. This was why it was so hard to take pictures. She kept picking up the gold rope and putting it in front of her face, kicking her feet up to her head (exposing her diaper) to look at her sandals and pulling her dress up. The point of the costume was for me and Pipes to have fun, not to get pictures, and we definitely achieved that. Well maybe a little of it was for the pictures. FINE, a lot.

The only one she is kind of smiling in.

Hooray for Gladiator Sandals...made out of cardboard.
Goddess of Love and Beauty. I think that's Aphrodite. I should have brushed up on my Mythology.

A better look at the sandals.

The piptures (haha, get it?) don't do her justice. She was a stinkball of cuteness. I overheard the nurses outside of her room saying she should have won the costume contest because she definitely had the cutest costume!! I had to pretend that I wasn't eavesdropping even though I was grinning ear to ear and agreeing 100%. She couldn't even go to the parade they had, so she really had no chance. Oh well, next year :)

I kept making Pip say "Hear Ye, Hear Ye". I decided to write about it even though many of you already know a lot about it. I chose to make the name of it the title of this post because I'm hoping it will come up if googled, creating a way to get in touch with other families who are experiencing it. It is an extremely rare syndrome, making it a sort of isolating experience. I would just die at the opportunity to meet a family going through what Jake, myself and especially Piper have gone through. With less than 50 recorded cases and most of them not surviving birth, it's trick-freakin-y. I google it every once in a while hoping to find out more information, or recent discoveries. Who knows, maybe some other hot, young mother is doing the same!!
I'm going to write some important details in Piper's history, just to fill everyone in...
When I was 17 weeks pregnant, I had an ultrasound resulting in two important finds: a sack of fluid on the back of pip's neck and a very small, underdeveloped chin. Both big, red flags that there were probably many more problems not able to be seen while in utero. The rest of my pregnancy was blood tests, an amnio, millions of ultrasounds, fetal echos, MRIs and such to try to figure out how to save this special baby and treat her properly. She was of course born 8 weeks early through emergency c-section.
They diagnosed her shortly after she was born with CCMS. The two most common factors in CCMS is the Micrognathia (underdeveloped chin) and the rib/ chest abnormalities. Piper is missing half of her rib cage, which is the suspected reason she has so many breathing issues. She has six on one side and seven on the other. Since the structure of her chest is so abnormal, her rib cage is also too small, so her lungs are prevented from expanding all the way, resulting in quick/short breaths....resulting in burning pretty much all of her calories on breathing so hard, resulting in the teensiness. Along with many of her ribs, one of her scapula and clavicles is still cartilege, so positioning and therapy is vital for her comfort. Her scoliosis and kyphosis (curved and "humped" spine) is taking a negative turn, so I expect we'll be working on that soon.
I have spoken with a surgeon in Philadelphia specializing in rib surgery and while he thinks Piper is a great candidate for rib expansion, he doesn't know that she would survive such a major prcedure at this time. He thinks we should wait. I concur!!!!!
Piper has pulmonary hypertension which used to be a really serious thing, but thanks to her incredible doctors, they have found the perfect cocktail of medications to keep it under control and stop scaring the pee out of us. She has mostly been cured of cross-eyedness and has full hearing in only her left ear. Her right nostril isn't an open airway and the right side of her heart works harder than the left. Making a thick muscle around it. I think that's it!!
This is a small post compared to the procedures and episodes she has endured. Really, microscopic in comparison. Writing and reading about her makes me love her, apreciate her, adore her and completely stand in amazement at her fighting power! Piper, why do you want to be here? Why are you so awesome? Why do you hate getting your nose wiped? Why did you choose to be a Breinholt? I know I'm going to be answered all of my millions of questions some day. I know a lot more than I did before Piper. How does a baby do that?
I feel it is very necessary for me to be open about Piper, mostly because her condition is so rare and she is such an inspiration. I do try to be respectful to her in the way that I write and hope that I'm doing a good job of it. I love her to the depth of my soul and the tips of my toes. I'm proud of her every day for her progress, strong will and just for being her unique little self.
Sorry I brag so much! Don't be jeal!

Today I got a very important email

Dear Reagan,

Welcome to the ING New York City Marathon 2008! Thanks so much for volunteering! We've got a spectacular week and race day planned, and we are incredibly grateful to you for helping to make it all possible for our 38,000 runners. On behalf of New York Road Runners, I wish you a fantastic marathon experience.

Below are details of your assignment(s).

Job: Chip Clipper
Location: West 77th Street at Central Park West
Supervisor: Marc Kramer
Date: 11/2/2008
Time: 11:30 AM

So, there you have it. I've been looking forward to this email for 2 weeks. Every day. Every single day. I got chip clipper just like I wanted. I think I'm for sure going to clip Ryan Reynold's chip. It is pretty much a fact. I'll tell him you said hi. Did you know that to thank me for volunteering, they are giving me a dunkin donuts gift card? That's not really volunteering. I wouldnt mind my regular job paying me in donuts.

Also, dont you love that it calls it an "assignment"? I feel very important. Maybe I'm saving the world and I dont even know it. Do you have an assignment?

Piper's Diaper Graduation

Piper is now in size 2 diapers. I thought that cute little bum would never grow out of size 1. But this weekend, I was proved wrong. So, Yes Reagan, Piper IS growing. She hasn't gained much weight, but a little goes a long way when you are a tiny little Pip. I think she is almost as tall as me by now. I also started buying her size 6 month clothes. They really dont fit yet, but I'm hoping to build up a good collection by the time they do so that she can continue her fashionable-ness...or something. We took her outside!!! Hooray!!!!! She hates the sun.
I love this picture of the cousins :)
But I think this might be one of my favorites of all time. Sarah, Jessie, Maya and Soph brought this shirt for Piper. It's so cute. It reminds me of something cute little Gus Truscott would wear. She threw up on it.

Three Times.

I've never been tagged until about two weeks ago and now it's happened three times. So, I'll do them all in one. I never really thought I'd do it but I realized that I really like finding out random info about my friends and it's kind of fun, so here it is!

The first was by my friend Julie.

JOYS:

1-Running

2-Laughing

3-Family/Friends

Fears

1-Piper related stuff (no detail needed)

2-someone breaking into my apartment, hiding under my bed and grabbing my ankles when I get in. *shuttering*

3-Getting Fat. Shallow, I know.

Goals

1-Get back to my old totally healthy eating habbits

2-run 5 half marathons in 2009

3-Get awesomely good at all of Piper's necessary training

Current obsession/collections

1- Shopping. It really is an obsession that I'm actually sick of. I just have done it way too much in the last few months and I can't stop thinking about it. I want to stop. I want my normal life back.

2-Tea! When the weather cools down, I obsess over collecting and drinking tea. Every flavor. Every delicious flavorfull flavor.

3-Filling, emptying and refilling the owl. My friend Kendra got me this awesome owl bank last year for my birthday, and I try to fill it with change as fast as possible so I can take it to commerse bank and play the penny arcade. It's like free money!! Then I buy whatever the freak I want! Hooray! (Jake hates this because I steal all the loose change I can get my filthy mits on. Because of this, we never have quarters for the parking meters.)

Next Tag was by Andrea! Hooray!

7 Things I Plan to Do Before I Die

1. Go to Australia

2. Bring my Pip home

7 Things I Do Now

1. Be silly way too much

2. We went two days in a row. The next night was at the McCarron Park Pool in Brooklyn, an awesome venue. Later in the night I mouthed off to a guy for constantly shoving me and he called me a bad name. Jake stood up for me and the guy wound up punching Jake. He ripped jake's shirt, scratched his neck and got a couple blows to the back of Jake's poor head. Jake of course wasn't going to fight back and risk getting disbarred. Plus only losers fight. Plus that guy was totally getting high the whole time. I still feel kind of bad about it. I'm such an idiot for piping up. Anyway, Jake is my hero.

The most Pipified friend

Remember Aunt Dojee? Well, Deanna is the friend version of her. Meaning, she has flown into town to see Piper more than any other out of town friend I have. In fact, when I first revealed the baby bump, Deanna revealed that she was going to start setting aside money from that day on so she could book a flight the day the baby was born, regardless of price. And she did. I sent her a text saying something like "had baby, totes tiny" and she sent one saying "booking flight". What a great friend right? This was her third visit, and we decided that Pippy totally remembers her.

Deanna LOVES Halloween and wanted to buy Piper's costume, but since I'm making it, she insisted on buying all the supplies. We went to Michaels in the Bronx and ransacked the place. Stay tuned for Piper's costume.

She is also staying busy with her first year as a 6th grade teacher in Charlotte, NC. She teaches science and social studies and is doing a great job from the sounds of things and I can't imagine a better teacher for my own children. I bet all the boys have crushes on her.

Petting a pip during a nap

just playing

entertaining herself

Hooray!!

Bye guys!

Finally, the Hartford Marathon.

Took me long enough...here are some of the pictures from the big day. After waking up early for the last 2 1/2 months to do some massive running, the race finally came. Deanna flew in on Thursday night and we drove up to Hartford Friday to check in at the expo. I had so much anxiety about it that night, I could hardly sleep.

Race morning, we walked over to the park to stretch and warm up. It was SO cold. Mostly because it was 7 a.m. and in the shade. Once we started running it was perfect. Deanna and I ran the first 12 miles together before she remembered she is totally awesome and needs to run at Olympic speed. We had a great time while we were running together and made some friends along the way. Who's surprised?

About the rest of the race.....I have to be honest, I forgot how painful a marathon is. I don't want to complain too much, because my initial goal (prior to the three week before the race idea I had that maybe I could qualify for Boston) was to get under 4 hours. And I did. By 30 seconds. You'll notice at the bottom that my finishing time is 4 hrs 1 min, but my chip time was 3hrs 59 mins. So there.

Anyway, I felt smokin' good until I got to mile 21. Then it was utterly shocking how rapidly my pace slowed down. When I got to 21 miles, I had been running for 2 hrs 55 minutes. I only had 5 miles to go and 45 minutes to do it to qualify. That's not so bad right? So what happened? The wall. Hitting the "Wall" is a term they use in marathon lingo (not that it's hard to figure out) where you just lose all motivation and the pain is so high that you are DRAGGING yourself to finish. It was really the worst at 23. The most frustrating thing, is that after 23 miles, 3 measly more SHOULD seem like nothing. Long story short, it doesn't. It seems an eternity away and I continued to slow more and more until I finished almost 20 minutes behind my plan.

I said I wouldn't complain, but I think I did anyway. I still took 20 minutes off of my first marathon time. And now that I'm not so sore, I think I'll take back what I said about never doing another marathon again. I totally will. I just have to figure out my next location/time. That's all!

Deanna, Jake and Me! Just before the race and totally pumped to go!

The night before, scouting out the race course.

Me and Carol, finishing together. I owe her, what a positive, determined, amazing woman! Oh yeah, after running the full marathon, she ran a half marathon the next day!! Jake, finishing up like a buff little monkey :)
Deanna and me right after finishing. She rocked it and qualified for Boston at her first marathon. I'm not surprised in the slightest. It was very sweet that she dedicated her run to her mom, Paula. Paula is a recent breast cancer survivor.

These are all of our friends who ran. Our friends Victor and Natalie had a celebration dinner for all of us which was both yummy and relaxing. Now, more about the athletes pictured: Jake took another monumental amount of time off his record, Deanna qualified for Boston, I achieved my first goal, Heather and Emily not only achieved their goal time, but they BOTH have babies less than a year old, Erin ran the half marathon (I believe her first) and Carol is the crazy one who ran a half marathon the next day like I mentioned above. What an awesome group, right?

I found out that my nike running watch is a little over a tenth of a mile off. So, considering my farthest run while training was only about 17.5-18 miles, I'm even more proud of my time....and p.0ed at my dumb watch!

One more thing. I signed up to volunteer at the NYC marathon coming up in November. I requested to be a chip clipper. I hope I meet Ryan Reynolds. I'm working on a cool speech to tell him about how inspiring he is for running for the Parkinsons Disease fund. So far this is what I got....

"Hey Ryan, great job out there....not an easy thing to do. BTW I think you are doing an amazing thing for Parkinsons. Truly an inspiration. I wish I could say the same about 'Definitely, Maybe'. anyway, I'm done clipping your chip, see ya."

I have a lot of work to do

Can you believe our weekend?
We had: Sarah, Jessie, Maya and Sophie in town from Alaska, a birthday boy, an outdoor adventure with Piper Jane, too much food, movie watching and cousin meeting (last but not least)!
I haven't even gotten into last weekends adventures yet. I have also recently been tagged 3 times and I'm really excited to get those done as well because I've never done it. You can all expect a blogging frenzy from me tonight when I get home from work.
I have a lot to talk about! But first, I want to talk about something special to me.
My toenails.
You see, they are in their last days, thanks to the marathon. Soon I'll have nothing but toe carcass' where my freshly painted, pedied lovelies lived.
At about mile 22 I started to feel an excruciating pain in the tips of my big toes as I took each step. That's when I knew. As soon as I finished, I took my shoes off to find both toenails blackened and bruised.
So sad. So painful. But mostly, SO hideous.
If you've spent any time around me in the last 3 days, you might already know. I CANNOT stop talking about it. Even more, I cannot stop thinking about it. The weirdness connected with this is comparable to the weirdness of pregnancy/childbirth. I never thought I'd see my toes behave this way.
Who knows when they'll finally fall off. Will they grow back? Will I have to get them entirely amputated like jared letto in "requiem for a dream"? At least it will be winter.
Maybe I should buy some new shoes. Like, some really cute ones that will distract me from what lies underneath. I should probably do that.
K, Jake? Thanks, love ya!

Concerning Deanna and a teeny Pip

Pictures slash stories later For now......the thought of Pippy wiping 20 nostrils worth of snot all over my shirt.

Concerning the marathon

I will post pictures slash stories soon.

For now......legs, back, bum, joints and feet=in pain

Yesterday.

I gave this woman a blow out. I've seen her walking around about once a week since I've been working in that neighborhood. I know her from Sabrina the Teenage Witch, but you might know her from her Stand up comedy or being the host of The Biggest Loser. For a comedian, she wasn't as friendly as I would have expected, but she is about to have a baby any day. That gives her every right to be semi-anti-social. She was perfectly nice, but not telling me jokes and making me laugh like a comedian should. Since I don't really know much about her, I didn't really say anything anyway. Plus, that's not really my style. My style is more like....pretend it's normal to do someone sort of famous' hair and then blog about it later. Plus, Oprah was on in the background not shutting up about erectile dysfunction.

Then, on the way home, I saw a woman breastfeeding her 2 or 3 year old on the subway sans hooter hider. I tried not to look, but she was sitting right across from me. I know it's natural and beautiful, but I still felt weird. We were only able to walk around the hospital, but it was still completely amazing! It's the first time we have ever been really alone with her and 100% in charge of her care. It was an awesome feeling that so many of the nurses were confident enough with our training and trusting of us to not book it out of that one horse town (i wanted to).

It went great. Pipes had the best time. My friend Kaedi came up to see Piper Jane with me yesterday. She was so awesome to get a baby sitter, drive all the way up with me AND listen to me ramble for a few hours about normal Reagan Breinholt ramblings. For some reason, I love watching other people with Pipsey. None of my friends act afraid or intimidated by Little Pip's conditions and this makes my situation seem a little more normal. Of course everyone is gentle and cautious, but in a very *this doesn't make me uncomfortable one bit* sort of way. I say it all the time, I have awesome friends.

When we walked in, the nurse informed me that Piperoni had just gotten back from school! Isn't that so cute? She is just starting school now that she is off contact isolation. At school, she isn't learning the Pythagorean Theorem or all the President's names in order, it is really just a little baby class room (it is just as adorable as you are imagining) where they try to treat the babies as if they were home. They put them on the floor, do some therapy, play with some toys, listen to music......I'm so happy she gets to do this now. I bet she'll get all A's. Here is Kaedi playing so sweetly with Piper. The first was while I was heading east from riverside park towards central park. As I ran on 95th street I suddenly noticed it was snowing...hard. I was confused for half a second until I looked up and realized I was running through a HUGE cloud of smoke. I looked up even higher to see flames billowing out of the windows of an apartment building on amsterdam avenue. Woah, this is a huge fire, I thought to myself. I could see in one of the windows and watched for a second until I realized that somehow I'd gotten past the police barricades by accident, and was not only standing right in front of the building, but I was blocking the FDNY from puting out the flames and my legs were getting totally hosed down by a fire hydrant. There was so much smoke and ashes that I could still smell and see them when I was entering the park three blocks away. The smokey smell lingered much longer.
I saw the fire on the news when I got to work, but I already was with a client so I couldn't pay attention. I hope everyone is safe.
Then, while I was finishing my first loop in the park, I started thinking about how maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea to stop at one loop. I'm tired, I thought, and I'd like to eat breakfast. Maybe I'll stop at 15 or 16 miles. Just then I saw him. The luv gov himself. Mr. Elliot Spitzer out for a morning jog just like me. That's when I knew I had to do the full 20 miles. Because if Elliot Spitzer can get up, brush himself off and go running in a city that laughs at him after resigning from office due to a high class prostie scandal, then I can do that too....minus the prosties, and pretty much everything else. So I did! It was a good run and an even more interesting morning!

Weekend with Amanda

My friend Amanda came to see us this weekend. I haven't seen her in about two years, so it was a lot of fun catching up and itroducing her to Piper Jane. Amanda and I were peas and carrots in beauty school and shared some of the worlds funniest moments together. Even now that we are both married and both moms, not a lot changed. It was a great weekend with lots of shopping, eating, talking, relaxing and joking around. I love that she was the easiest guest in the world and just happy to do whatever. Piper wearing mama's necklace.
