Mikey, his mother Patty and their incredibly touching story have affected my life forever. Patty has been a huge support to us even after we left the NICU and has consistantly called to check up on me and Piper every few days since I met her last summer. The friendship we have is especially important because of our similar situation. The mothers of long term hospital babies definetely understand eachother and sometimes when we've had conversations, I felt like she could read my mind.
I'm so thankful for the strong friendship and example Patty has given me. I'm so thankful for the 8 month fight Mikey put up. I'm thankful to know that he is with his brother Timmy and can be without tubes, IVs and other annoyances. I'm sad to see my last NICU friend's journey at Columbia end, but am so amazed at her determination and strength.
Piper has certainly brought me to meet people like this and know things I would have never learned of without her. How's that for a life's calling?

Next time you see Patty, give her a big hug from me.

Thank goodness for strong mothers like you and your friend Reagan. I can't even imagine being in your situation. With Micah being gone it always bugs me when couples complain and say they wish they had more time with each other and that they are so picked on because their husbands get off work at 7:00 at night instead of 5:00 and have to work an occasional Saturday and I always think, waahh waahh for you, your husband could be in Iraq and you could not see you at all! and I am sure that is exactly how you feel when you hear moms complain about their kids driving them crazy and how you would give anything to have that. Just know I pray for your little Piper and that everytime I feel picked on I think of you. You are amazing!!

I am so sorry to hear about little Mikey, we was so beautiful and was so sweet. It is amazing the friendships that are made when going through hard times. My thoughts are with you and Piper as well.
