October has been quite a eventful month for Piper Jane. She got a new gastrostomy tube, met Grandpa Breinholt and found out that she is going to have a new crib soon. Piper had a gastrostomy tube installed on October 8th. This tube allows her to be fed without having any tubes in her nose or mouth. Although the surgery took a little longer than expected, it was a success and Piper is recovering swimmingly. The week after Piper got her tube, her doctors had a meeting with Reagan and I to inform us that the NICU had nothing more to offer Piper along the lines of development. They also informed us that they felt like she is sufficiently stable that a NICU environment is no longer completely necessary. The good news is that Reagan and I toured the place that Piper will be moving to and it is really cool. We have a really good feeling about the progress that Piper will be able to make there. The bad news is that it is in Westchester County, not easily accessible by public transportation. This means that the quick after-work visits will be coming to a halt. It also means that we will more than likely be moving our car into the city and keeping in a garage so that we can make weekend trips up to visit her. For now, there are no beds available, so we are trying to maximize the time that she is still so close to us. One way that we were able to take advantage, was having a very fun visit from Piper's grandma and grandpa Breinholt. They showed up on October 20th and were able to make a long weekend out of it. As always, Piper's wardrobe expanded when grandma Breinholt visits. This time it was a custom tailored U of U cheerleader outfit. Piper loves it. Piper was especially cute for them on the Tuesday that they were leaving. We had a really fun visit with her that morning. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
